Technical Architecture
We help organisations establish clear technical direction before and during delivery. That includes solution architecture, API and integration design, mobile and frontend architecture, and reviews of systems that need to scale, harden or evolve.

Algobots Ltd is a UK software engineering consultancy based in Wirral, Merseyside (Established June 2019). We help product and engineering teams build, rescue and modernise mobile apps, web platforms and custom software, UK-wide. This page explains our technical architecture practice.
The problem architecture work solves
Most teams do not fail because they lack frameworks. They fail because nobody has written down how the mobile app, the API and the back-office systems are supposed to fit together. Integrations get bolted on, permissions diverge between channels, and every new feature takes longer than the last.
Architecture consultancy is about making those connections explicit before they become expensive. We work with product owners and engineering leads who need a second pair of eyes: either to validate a direction they already lean toward, or to untangle a system that grew faster than its design.
How we approach it
We start from behaviour users can see, then walk backward through data, APIs and infrastructure. That sounds obvious, but many reviews begin with diagrams that never touch production code. We read repositories, run builds, and ask where incidents actually happen.
Engagements vary. Sometimes we produce a target-state sketch and a sequenced roadmap. Sometimes we sit in refinement sessions for a quarter and guard integration boundaries while features ship. We favour Architecture Decision Records for choices that will hurt if forgotten, and lighter notes for reversible experiments.
Security and scalability are part of the same conversation, not separate slide decks. We ask who can access what, what happens when traffic spikes, and which dependencies would block a rollback. If a mobile release depends on a batch job nobody monitors, we say so plainly.
What good looks like in practice
Teams tell us the work has landed when engineers stop re-debating the same three topics every sprint. Product gets clearer options: build, buy, or defer. Stakeholders see why a rewrite is or is not justified.
We have supported architecture reviews for retail platforms, membership products and internal tools where mobile and web had drifted apart. Names matter less than the pattern: align channels, shrink unknowns, then fund delivery with confidence.
We do not sell shelfware. If a two-page brief is enough for your board, that is what you receive. If you need deeper API contracts because multiple vendors integrate, we go there instead.
Working with your existing team
We are not there to replace your tech lead. We document assumptions, challenge weak spots, and leave artefacts in your repos and wikis. Pairing sessions with senior developers are often more valuable than presentations to executives, though we do both when useful.
If you are about to sign a major SaaS contract or replatform a legacy module, an independent architecture pass can pay for itself by surfacing mismatch early. The same applies before you commit to React Native New Architecture or a multi-year cloud migration.
Common engagement shapes
A two-week review might cover mobile, API and data stores for a single product line, ending with a workshop and written options. A longer embed sees us join architecture guild meetings, review pull requests that touch integration boundaries, and coach tech leads on how to run ADRs without bureaucracy.
Retail and membership businesses often ask us to compare build versus buy for a loyalty or content module. We model operational cost, not only licence fees. Internal IT teams ask for a second opinion before their integrator commits to a monolithic vendor stack.
We stay vendor-neutral. If a managed SaaS genuinely fits, we say so. If a thin custom layer on top of boring PostgreSQL will serve you longer, we say that too. The aim is a decision your team can defend six months later.
Architecture work ties into delivery when you want the same people who wrote the target state to help implement the first slice. That reduces telephone between consultants and engineers, though we are equally happy to hand a roadmap to your in-house squad.
Ready to talk? Start with a discovery call or email a short brief describing systems, users and the decision that is stuck. We will suggest a sensible first step rather than a generic audit template.
Starting a conversation
Bring a one-page summary of users, platforms and the decision that hurts today. Links to crash dashboards, architecture sketches or a repo readme save time in the first call. We do not need NDAs for an initial chat, though we sign them when required for deeper audits.
Expect straight answers about fit. If another partner is better suited, we say so. When we proceed, the first deliverable is usually a scoped proposal: outcomes, assumptions, rough timeline and what we need from your team weekly.
Engagements are invoiced in GBP with clear milestones. We work with procurement teams who need purchase orders and with founders who prefer lightweight email agreements. The mechanics are flexible; the engineering standard is not.
Documentation and handover are part of delivery, not an optional extra. Your team should be able to operate the result without us in the loop for daily fixes, unless you choose retained support.
What we need from your side
Access to repositories, CI, crash reporting and someone who knows recent release history. Product input for prioritisation and a single decision maker for scope changes keeps momentum. Security reviews are normal for enterprise clients; we provide statements of work and can work with your IT contacts.
We align with your sprint cadence where possible. Fixed-date marketing launches still happen; tell us early so upgrade work does not collide with immovable deadlines. Honesty about trade-offs protects customers and staff.
Most programmes benefit from a short retrospective after the first milestone. Capture what to repeat and what to fix in tooling. That habit pays back on the next upgrade cycle.

FAQ
Common questions
When should we bring in a technical architect?
Before a major rewrite, when integrations multiply, or when delivery slows because nobody owns cross-cutting decisions. We often join after an internal audit surfaces conflicting patterns between mobile, web and backend teams.
Do you produce formal architecture documents?
Yes, when they help. That might mean C4-style diagrams, ADRs, API contracts or a written target state. We keep artefacts sized to the decision you need to make, not a shelf of unused PowerPoints.
Can you review an existing system without building anything new?
That is a common starting point. We read code, run the app, talk to engineers and product, then deliver a prioritised list of risks and options with effort bands.
How do architecture engagements usually start?
A discovery call, then a short paid audit or workshop if the scope is unclear. From there we may stay on for governance during delivery or hand off a roadmap your team executes.
