Digital Product Engineering
We engineer web platforms that stand up to production use: React and Next.js frontends, TypeScript throughout, Node.js services, authentication, payments and integrations with the systems your organisation already depends on.

Algobots Ltd is a UK software engineering consultancy based in Wirral, Merseyside (Established June 2019). We help product and engineering teams build, rescue and modernise mobile apps, web platforms and custom software, UK-wide. This page explains our digital product engineering practice.
Products, not brochure sites
Digital product engineering here means software people log into: customer portals, membership apps, operational dashboards, multi-tenant SaaS, and the APIs behind them. The work sits between marketing websites and back-office ERP customisation.
Teams come to us when a spreadsheet workflow has become a product, or when a successful MVP needs proper permissions, billing and integrations. The challenge is rarely drawing screens; it is modelling roles, data ownership and failure modes.
How we build
TypeScript is our default language across frontend and services. React or Next.js for interactive UI, Node.js for APIs unless your estate already standardises on something else. We design boundaries so mobile clients and third parties consume the same contracts.
Authentication and authorisation are designed early, not patched after launch. That includes SSO with providers your enterprise customers expect, and sensible session handling for consumer-facing apps.
Payments and subscriptions follow the same rule: understand PCI scope, webhooks and reconciliation before you promise go-live dates to the board. We have integrated Stripe and similar providers on several products; complexity usually lives in business rules, not SDK calls.
Integrations that survive contact with reality
Most products eventually talk to CRM, finance, warehouse or legacy SOAP services. We prefer explicit sync jobs with retries and dead-letter queues over silent nightly scripts. When a vendor API is flaky, the UI should say so instead of hanging.
Performance work is part of product engineering, not a separate phase. Slow dashboards erode trust as quickly as mobile crashes. We profile queries, cache deliberately, and measure real user journeys rather than synthetic lab scores alone.
What you can expect
Engagements usually produce working software in iterations, with demos your stakeholders can click. Documentation targets the engineer who joins in six months, not the consultant who wrote the first commit.
If you need a thin vertical slice to test pricing or onboarding, we will say that aloud and scope accordingly. If you need a platform you will still operate in five years, we invest more upfront in modular boundaries and automated tests around critical paths.
Lifecycle from discovery to operate
Discovery clarifies roles, data sources and compliance triggers. We sketch domain models and API sketches before pixels, because permissions mistakes are expensive to unwind. Design collaboration stays practical: Figma when you have it, whiteboard photos when you do not.
Build phases ship vertical slices: sign-up, core action, admin view. Each slice is deployable so stakeholders learn from real usage. We avoid six-month branches that merge with fireworks.
Operational readiness includes logging, backups, runbooks and on-call expectations. SaaS products need tenant isolation tests, not only happy-path demos. Portals for customers or members need audit trails when disputes arise.
We have supported teams after acquisitions where two products must merge accounts without losing history. Those programmes need careful migration scripts and comms plans, not only code.
Algobots engineers stay small by choice; you work with seniors who still commit. That keeps estimates grounded and reduces the game of telephone through account managers.
Starting a conversation
Bring a one-page summary of users, platforms and the decision that hurts today. Links to crash dashboards, architecture sketches or a repo readme save time in the first call. We do not need NDAs for an initial chat, though we sign them when required for deeper audits.
Expect straight answers about fit. If another partner is better suited, we say so. When we proceed, the first deliverable is usually a scoped proposal: outcomes, assumptions, rough timeline and what we need from your team weekly.
Engagements are invoiced in GBP with clear milestones. We work with procurement teams who need purchase orders and with founders who prefer lightweight email agreements. The mechanics are flexible; the engineering standard is not.
Documentation and handover are part of delivery, not an optional extra. Your team should be able to operate the result without us in the loop for daily fixes, unless you choose retained support.
What we need from your side
Access to repositories, CI, crash reporting and someone who knows recent release history. Product input for prioritisation and a single decision maker for scope changes keeps momentum. Security reviews are normal for enterprise clients; we provide statements of work and can work with your IT contacts.
We align with your sprint cadence where possible. Fixed-date marketing launches still happen; tell us early so upgrade work does not collide with immovable deadlines. Honesty about trade-offs protects customers and staff.
Most programmes benefit from a short retrospective after the first milestone. Capture what to repeat and what to fix in tooling. That habit pays back on the next upgrade cycle.
We publish no vanity metrics on this site. Outcomes depend on your starting point, team capacity and how boldly you fund maintenance alongside features.
Record decisions in your wiki or ADRs as you go. Future upgrades are cheaper when the last one was documented honestly, including dead ends.

FAQ
Common questions
Is this marketing website work?
No. We engineer logged-in products, portals, internal tools and SaaS platforms with authentication, permissions, integrations and operational concerns.
Which stacks do you use for new web products?
TypeScript throughout is our default: React or Next.js on the front, Node.js services or serverless where it fits. We match your constraints if you already have a stack in production.
Can you integrate with our CRM or ERP?
Yes. We design APIs and sync jobs with clear failure handling rather than one-off scripts. Scope depends on what the vendor exposes and how messy historical data is.
How do you hand over to an internal team?
Documentation, pairing, recorded walkthroughs and a period of review on pull requests. We aim for your engineers to own the codebase without us in the critical path.
